The fact that the owner needs to comment on every bad review speaks volumes. We never snuck in our cat, in fact the demented handyman and the so called cook saw our cat on the very first day we checked in!!! The cook even petted her so I am unsure how that is sneaking in a cat...They had to come into the room and fix the TV that was not working...The cat was on the bed in plain sight!!! We only received a comment about the cat after WEEK TWO...This place is money hungry...The owner thinks anyone who tells the truth and comments on the poor services and ridiculousness of the business is "trouble"!!!

I passed through Santa Fe in January on a cross country road trip I took with my boyfriend. We had a really hard time finding a place to stay in Santa Fe, but Paul came to the rescue! Paul is the sweetest, kindest, most hospitable man you could ever come across. When we came in, he gave us tea and homemade chocolate chip cookies, and pulled out tons of maps of Santa Fe and art catalogs showing what was up at the local galleries. We are photographers, so he circled all of the photo galleries as well as a few other places he thought would interest us. Paul also gave us a choice between a two bedroom suite and a regular room, both for the same price. We took the suite. It was really a full house, with vaulted ceilings, a full kitchen, perfect southwest decor and enough room to comfortably sleep three couples. It was by far the finest place we stayed in on our two-month road trip. After we chose our room, Paul gave us an additional discount, making the cost of the room only $50. It was really just unbelievable. In the morning we had the most delicious homemade breakfast EVER. I would heartily recommend this place to anyone going to Santa Fe. It is the best experience you will ever have. Finding places like this and meeting people like Paul is what makes traveling worthwhile.

This is a terrible place. The staff was rude and talked about the owner behind his back with alot of malice. They make up prices for their rooms depending on their mood. You will be lucky if anyone answers the phone to take your reservation and then when they do answer they are very rude. How this place stays in business is a mystery. The kitchen is filthy and should be shut down by the health department. There are many other places to stay in Santa Fe but be careful because Casa Del Toro operates other places like Chappelle Street Casitas and several others. They are all under the umbrella of the terrible Casa Del Toro.

We called last minute and got a fantastic deal to stay in Casa Del Toro's full size 3bd/3bth house for just two of us. We had a wonderful time. We arrived earlier than our check in time but Paul was more than happy to get us settled and help us plan a walking tour through the city. His advice was invaluable considering we didn't know the lay of the land when we got there. The B&B's location is less than 5 minutes from the center of everything touristy and cute. The house was clean and neat. Nothing flashy but definitely worth the price. The pet fee ($20 for the entire stay) is reasonable considering some of the other places I looked in Santa Fe and Paul and the chef were more than friendly and welcoming to Charlie (our dog). Lastly, a review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the incredible vegetarian feast we had in the morning. There was fantastic spicy hot chocolate, orange juice, muffins, granola, coffee and two hot dishes. There was also a delicious tempe scramble when I requested a non-egg option. Go here if: *you want a great deal in the center of town *you are craving a delicious vegetarian breakfast *you want a dog-friendly place to stay

Casa Del Toro was wonderful! I rented a 3bd 3bath plus den with futon for my wedding party and it was perfect! The casita was big and clean and had a great location close to the plaza. Bruce and Jody were so friendly and accommodating. I was reccomended to casa del toro by a friend and I would reccomend it to my other friends. My husband and I plan on staying their again when we come for Christmas instead of staying in an expensive hotel. Thank you!!!!

We needed a little R&R and decided Santa Fe would be a perfect location. We stayed 2 nights at Casa Del Toro. It was fairly easy to find, and Jodi was very helpful when checking us in. The room was very charming and had all the necessities. The bed was so comfy, the bathroom had enough space for me and all my toiletries, the heater was great and kept our room nice and cozy! (Especially because it was about 40 degrees during the day outside) We had or own parking space right in front of our room, and we didn't use our car, because the plaza was an easy walk from our room. Our rate included breakfast and we felt so spoiled by the delicious food made by our chef Star! She was fantastic and even took in to account our dietary needs (lowfat) Our 1st breakfast was a spread of yogurt, fruit, coffee cake, OJ, Coffee, and Fritatta, the 2nd morning, Star made us yummy Feta, egg & Spinach breakfast burritos, low fat apple cake! We couldn't have had a more pleasant stay, great location, great staff, and great food!

Please stay here. Paul is wonderful to deal with. He will tell you where everything is and how to get there as well as places to avoid. The place is literally 1 block from the plaza! The Georgia O'keefe museum is right around the corner. A great Japanese place is close by as well a number of eclectic cafes and shops. It's so nice and comfy and you get a place all to yourself. You really will not find a better deal in SF....sorry it's true so do yourself a favor and just stay at Casa!

My boyfriend and I will be coming back to Casa Del Toro. It was important for me to find a place which had Santa Fe style, was within walking distance to the town plaza and canyon road, and was affordable. I searched around Santa Fe and I am soooo glad i choose Casa Del Toro. Stayed two nights in #5 King Bed with Jacuzzi for $75/night and it included breakfast each morning. Room was huge with a furnished kitchen. Jacuzzi could fit my 6'1 210# boyfriend and my 5'4 180# bodies! Bed frame was beautiful, but bed mattress was ok. The area was very quiet. Breakfasts were amazing, as chef used fresh farmers market ingredients. The breakfast area was very stylish in a Santa Fe way. I walked through the kitchen when we arrived and it was very clean. The two staff members we encountered were friendly and there was a good atmosphere there. The town plaza was only 3-4 blocks away. Canyon Road was about a 15-minute walk away. Also, grocery store (albertsons) and bank (wells fargo) about a 15minute walk northwest. Casa Del Toro is ideally centered. It's a laid-back mom-n-pop place, so my advice to you is, if you are comfortable with some old-fashioned ways, then this place is for you. One example: making a reservation you will need to phone them, sometimes they answer the phone, sometimes they don't, you leave a message, and they call you back in a day or two.

WARNING: Casa Del Toro no longer has their incredible vegan-vegetarian-raw-foods chef, so the whole "breakfast" part of the "Bed-n-Breakfast" title is now a big question mark for those of us who want a vegan meal. Let's call it "Bed-n-Who-Knows-What-They'll-Serve". Yes, they have a cook and still offer breakfasts, but I haven't tried them - and since I came here primarily so that I could be GUARANTEED a good, hot, healthy ALL-VEGAN breakfast, I now see no point in returning. Which is unfortunate, because my partner and I have given this place a good deal of business in the past. Yes, they're still close to the Plaza. yes, they have decent rates. Let's hope that works for them.

When looking for a place to place to stay in Santa Fe last week, we wanted a place that wasn't too expensive and near the downtown area. Casa del Toro fit the bill-- especially when we booked on Travelocity and saved quite a bit from their website booking! The place that we stayed was a casita-- almost like a condo with a kitchen, living room, and bedroom. It was clean, but not necessarily well-appointed. It would probably be a great place to stay with a family. It was nice that we only had one set of neighbors, but it was unfortunate that we heard them banging kitchen cupboards, etc. Parking was odd-- we had to park down the street in front of other rooms since the City requires a permit to park in the 'hood. Because we booked online and got a good rate, breakfast wasn't included, but for $9 each we could add it-- and it was totally worth it!! Mariela is an AMAZING cook-- her pumpkin pancakes with ginger whipped cream, blue corn pancakes, homemade milk chocolate, fruit, etc-- oh yum! And she was so friendly! As is Paul, the main greeter/manager for the guests. New to Santa Fe, he wanted to make sure we were oriented, provided us a map, and told us he could provide restaurant recommendations if needed. All in all the place met our needs, was extremely well located, and the price was great. If I had more money, I'm not sure I'd come back, but for an economical, friendly, and convenient choice, this is a great option.

Casa Del Araña. My wife and I took the kids (3 yrs & 1 yrs) to Santa Fe for a much needed family escape from Phoenix and stayed only 1 of the 3 nights reserved in Unit #8. We are definitely budget travelers and planned our weekend away to be as economical as possible and a major part of that decision was based on amenities available at this establishment (Full Kitchen, Free Parking, Close proximity to Plaza, etc). Upon arriving around midnight on the coldest night of the year, we were welcomed by a room where the heater had not even been turned on and the front door handle fell off in my hand. I am handy enough to light a pilot light and fix a door handle so I did. Overall the amenities were nice with the exception of the 3 BLACK WIDOW SPIDERS & 2 CENTIPEDES found inside our room @ 9PM on night #2...as the kids were laying down to bed! The first was on the Cable line going to the TV - I killed that one with my shoe. Following the first encounter, it was time for the hunt - my trusty flashlight came in handy finding #2 next to the dresser in the bedroom & #3 between the step and the kitchen cabinet. While I didn't find a female widow in the coat closet near the front door, I did find lots of webs and something that looked like a male Widow. Centipede #1 was found inside the kitchen sink and #2 was found in the bathroom inside the shower. We were not willing to accept the safety risk to our 2 small children so we immediately packed up, called the emergency #, left 2 messages and departed for other accommodations. We are not from the area, had 2 children falling asleep and needed a place to stay, so we called the only other place we had seen in town. We were lucky enough to find availability at El Dorado for both Friday & Saturday night - unfortunately at a much higher price than Casa Del Spidero. My expectation was a refund for all 3 nights to help offset the additional costs incurred at When I spoke with Bruce I stated I expected a FULL REFUND but was told this would need to discussed with Jodi. When I spoke with Jodi, I again requested a FULL REFUND to make up for the additional unbudgeted money I now had to spend at another hotel (w/o a kitchen & $25/day parking). I was told by Jody that this decision would need to be made by the Owner. I stated that i would like to speak to the owner about the situation and have yet to hear back from anyone. I have challenged the charges with my Credit Card company but will likely not receive a full credit as we did stay 1 night. Very unfortunate for us, but at least my kids didn't end up in the emergency room from a BLACK WIDOW BITE! For those who aren't aware, Black Widows are quite common in the Desert Southwest and one of the most venomous spiders in the US. We see them OUTSIDE all the time, but never inside our house. They are the So much for clean and safe accommodations, small business owners taking care of their customers, and owning their mistakes. We will spread the word to anyone that is going to Santa Fe - THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO STAY. Regardless of price, lack of cleanliness and pride in ownership are unacceptable.

We made last minute reservations for New Years weekend. We have stayed at several places in Santa Fe and if it wasn't for Jody and the fabulous breakfasts we would of rated it OK. The rooms are clean and very close to the Plaza. This place is no frills and when booking reservations ask questions...be specific. Shyness doesn't get you anywhere. Good Price-great location and very friendly staff!!!

Just got back from Santa Fe and Casa del Toro was fantastic. We had a charming little Casita, and while it was not luxury, it was very clean, nicely decorated and so close to everything. Once we learned our way around we figured out we were a block from the O'Keeffe museum and 3 blocks from the Plaza. No charge for parking, and we never used the car during our time in downtown Santa Fe. Paul was very helpful, even offering his number for after hours if we needed something (or got lost!). Mariela's breakfasts were fabulous, and as a vegetarian, her meals were some of the best I've had. Again, if you're looking for luxury, room service, valet, etc. this isn't the place, but if you are looking for a great deal, friendly people, charming location and low-key, Casa Del Toro is wonderful.

We had a bit of trouble finding the place, but once we got there, we were greeted by our new best friend, Paul. He gave us the lay of the land - along with an upgrade and the entire "Paul Show". He encouraged us to get out the door and get to the museums to enjoy the free Fri. night. Our casita was really nice - when we choose B&Bs we look for a homey feel and not too much pink, fluffy s**t. The bathroom was really nice, with slate floors and a claw foot bathtub (though my skin gets so dry up there, I can only take quick rinse showers, plus with the drought, it is probably better that the water goes inside than get wasted on the outside of me!" Everything was a quick walk from there. It would be a great place to stay a few days, especially if you don't want to eat out every night and want to cook a meal or two in.

I have never stepped foot on this property because my Groupon was not honored. Every time I tried to book a room since October, I was denied. I did not threaten to give a bad review if I did not get my way. I just told the manager I was going to give him a review on Yelp. Simple. He has my money. I did not get what I paid for. Simple. No diva. Just the truth.

We stayed in a lovely Casita three blocks from the main square for our first anniversary. Price was incredibly low for the location. Breakfasts are wonderful and every person we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Quant is the way I would describe our charming colorful accommodations. The casita's are very old historic buildings so stay at the local holiday inn if you get annoyed by little things like not having ESPN or squeaky floorboards. Lots of extra towels, very clean, comfortable bed, free parking and did I mention that we loved the breakfasts? Fantastic! We look forward to staying here again on each of our return trips to Santa Fe. We stayed in 209B on Chapelle Street. Could not have been happier and it was a added treat that even my highly skeptical boyfriend was won over by the charms of the place.

We are frequent travelers who like other options than hotels. My husband is somewhat of a skeptic of Airbnb due to one other bad experience. When deciding relatively last minute to head to Santa Fe at the end of a trip to visit family in both Flagstaff, AZ and Lake Havasu, AZ, about all we wanted was to stay in a place within walking distance to the Plaza for sightseeing and good restaurants. Seeing Bruce's ad, where all that one can see are pictures of a dog and a baby, all I could go by were the 198 reviews.. most of them positive. I also should note that since I only had internet access through my Iphone, the mobile Airbnb app does not list all details, including additional charges (which include $9.00 extra for each person over 1, and a cleaning fee) Comments I paid particular attention to were to make sure to talk to him to specify needs/wants. After making the initial request, I called and left a message, but only received an email back. All started well, as we had a common connection to Kansas City and baseball. He gave us three You Tube videos to check out, and based on those three I replied with order of preference (my husband's advise!) I really wanted the one with the woodburner, and was SO excited when the confirmation email I got back showed that that was where we would be staying. The day we left my Dad's (celebrated his 90th birthday) in Lake Havasu, the temperature there was 92 degrees. Looking at the forecast for the trip to Santa Fe with a 40 degree drop in temp and 10 hours of heavy wind, the thought of starting a fire and grabbing a quick bite and watching the Cardinals game was all consuming. Upon arrival, we found (like others who reviewed) that we had been moved to a different unit. Bruce had emailed (not called) to tell us to look at yet another unit that had come available.. which was better than the one we had been assigned after being bumped out of the unit with the woodburner. The satellite dish also did not carry the ball game, so within 20 minutes of arrival, we were pretty bummed and I expressed that in an email (he did not call to discuss problems) Bruce's only reply was that "sometimes things change quickly" and that we were moved into something better than our 2nd choice. We have NEVER been bumped out of a rental after getting confirmation that we were accepted. We were offered the option of a refund to find somewhere else to go, but after 10 hours of driving and already unpacking, that was NOT something we wanted to deal with. We settled in to the unit which did meet all other criteria of proximity to the plaza and attentive staff and a good breakfast. Jetted tub was useless with only tepid water at best, after running for a full 10 minutes. In conveying our disappointment in email upon leaving, and suggesting that all of these issues could have been resolved had he only CALLED to discuss the options when the unit with the woodburner was given to someone else, Bruce's replies( in my opinion) were condescending, sarcastic, hurtful, and something that only reenforced my husband's feelings that Airbnb is NOT an option he wants to consider for future travel plans. He continues to berate me in his response to the review I had left on AirBnB, making it seem that it was my fault for not indicating how much I wanted the woodburner. He did not give me the chance since he has such an aversion to direct communication. He refuses to give acknowledgement that we gave positive review of the accurateness of the location, the friendliness and promptness of his staff, and to the good location. While he did eventually offer us two free nights for later use or to give to friends or donate to charity, I will NEVER put myself in a position to deal with a businessman so defensive or unreceptive to accept constructive criticism, or be so quick to reply in a way that appears to decimate my character as a vacation renter. All other reviews by hosts on this website are extremely positive and indicate that we are excellent renters who would be welcomed back at any time. I am sharing a bit of one of his email replies to give people reading these reviews a fair warning of what to expect if any dissatisfaction is reported during your stay. EVERYONE I have showed this to picked up the same tone of condescension and sarcasm as we did when we read it. "Charging you a higher price was never part of the equation, getting you in the best room available is my only priority. Believe me, if I had a house, with golden toilets, perpetual hot springs, 4 fireplaces, a butler, a personal chef, and a masseuse available for the dates you stayed, I would have put you in it for no extra charge."

This place was Great! Paul, the owner, is very accommodating and sweet... he is obviously dedicated to making sure you have everything you need to have a great stay - He knows everywhere! He provided a helpful dining guide and map and drew all the places we wanted to go - awesome! The one-bedroom unit (#5) we stayed in was clean and neat - watch out for the squeaky 4 poster though - it took a night to get used to... Conveniently located to everything - .3 miles to the plaza! The breakfast is a must - only $9/person and almost one of the best I've every had - fresh homemade granola, yummy blue corn pancakes and very tasty potato hash... Janet is the cook and she was very sweet ;-) Totally satisfying xperience

I stayed here for a week in the summer, but I would never stay here again. I'd rather stay at the Motel 6 than this place, though the Sage Inn is my usual place). It's just badly run, poor communication, and poor customer care..not professional. I guess lots of bed and breakfasts are like that, but the laid-back attitude of Santa Fe has infected their management a bit too much. The location is nice, but location is only worth so much. Even though I got a discounted rate, with tax it is comparable to other rates I got in similarly good locations (including some real hotels) and my rate didn't include breakfast here. So it turned out to be a decent, but not good deal financially compared to other places...shop around . I dealt with two people and the one I made the reservations with on the phone was nice and helpful, but I don't remember him telling me anything about switching rooms when I booked the place. However, the rude and aloof woman who greeted me when I checked in (which you can only do during very limited hours...and the key was not left for me in the appointed place) told me that I had to move to the casita next door midway through my stay (the the paper I got when I arrived said Tuesday, but actually it was Thursday, which caused a pain/confusion in itself). I can't imagine any reason why that would be necessary; why not just book the person coming into my room into the one next door instead of forcing me to move. Nonetheless, I wasted en entire morning waiting for somebody to come to give me the key to the other place...and I had to leave for a meeting before they even showed up. I was not given any instructions or details on how this would happen either. So I was forced to leave my first room wondering what would happen to all my stuff and how I would get into the new room. They moved it over, and the new room was better (see below), but not better enough to be worth the hassle of packing and unpacking my stuff. Also, they made no arrangements for me to get the new key, and didn't call me as I requested; if I hadn't managed to get back to the place before the office closes (at 6:00pm) then I may have been locked out all night! The place is itself is not comfortable or nice. The floors creak loudly whenever you move anywhere in the place, and you can hear the creaking from your neighbors' floors as well. The curtain over the front door is so thin that at night anybody walking by can see everything that is going on in the bedroom. EVERYTHING! The other curtain was covering the window-mounted AC so the room was uncomfortably hot for a couple of days until I went out and got some duck tape to hold the curtain back. And there are no windows that I can open to get fresh air in. You'd think they would have thought about that...but they clearly aren't thinking too hard about their rooms. You may read that there is something like a kitchen...that's just a lie. In the first casita (that's on Chapelle B) there is a mini-fridge, with a microwave stacked on it, and a hotplate stacked on that. There is also a shelf with a toaster, coffee maker, and dishes, but there is no counter to prepare anything on...just the small dining table itself. So it's all basically useless. You have to clean everything in the tiny bathroom sink, and it's just too small to clean most of those things. This is evident in the fact that the dishes I tried to use were DIRTY sitting there on the shelf. The second room had a real kitchen. Though I wouldn't say that this place ruined my trip to Santa Fe, or that I was totally miserable in the casita overall. It certainly was not comfortable, or charming in any quaint sort of way. It was just shabby cheap, like a college kid's budget apt. So what I would say is that given a second chance I would rather have spent an extra $10 or $20 dollars per night for a better place because even at the higher cost it would be a better value (i.e. include breakfast, water bottles, reliable internet, accessible power outlets, etc.).
